We are thrilled to announce the release of Forum 4.0, a complete ground-up redesign of the Open Source Social Network (OSSN) software forum component. In "this modern world," community engagement happens on mobile devices and high-resolution screens. Forum 4.0 is built specifically to meet those demands.
What’s New in Forum 4.0?
The focus of this update wasn't just on adding features, but on modernizing the layout and optimizing the user experience (UX). Built with Bootstrap 5.3, the new interface moves away from dated table-based layouts toward a clean, card-based system.
1. Modernized Component Layout
Gone are the heavy borders and cramped rows of the past. Forum 4.0 introduces:
- Pill-style Breadcrumbs: Navigating through categories and topics is now intuitive and visually separated.
- Iconography & Indicators: High-contrast icons help users distinguish between categories and active discussion topics at a glance.
- Soft-Tint Controls: We’ve replaced harsh buttons with modern "soft-tint" badges for editing and deleting replies, providing a professional look.
2. Enhanced Readability & Typography
We believe that content is king. To reduce eye strain and improve accessibility, we’ve updated our typography engine:
- Increased Line-Height: Discussion text now breathes with a
1.8line-height. - Optimized Font Sizes: A base size of
18pxensures your community's voices are heard clearly on any device. - Refined Quotes: The new
[quote]system uses a sleek, accented side-border rather than bulky boxes, keeping conversations fluid.
3. Fully Responsive Design
On smartphones, the layout intelligently collapses sidebars and shifts user metadata to ensure the discussion remains the centerpiece of the screen.
